While living in Los Angeles in 1997, I made two important discoveries: I had a knack for teaching (middle school at the time) and the wonder of yoga. I have had the good fortune of studying with some of modern yoga’s best, starting with the late, great Maty Ezraty and with Anusara Founder, John Friend. Over the years my interests have expanded beyond asana to mediation, energy work and various self inquiry practices. Today my classes are a dynamic blend of doing and feeling. I aim to impart knowledge, invite inquiry and inspire personal growth.

I began studying yoga in college and practiced off and on over the years on my own. The day I stepped into Shakti , my practice and life changed. I began to see myself with more non-judgmental compassion and to enjoy the experience of being in my body. Under the careful guidance of the teaching staff at Shakti, I developed a love of yoga and the opportunity to continue to learn and share that knowledge with others. My teaching style is grounded in the belief that yoga is for all bodies. I teach a slower, deeper style of practice based on my love of anatomy, sound body alignment, and strengthening the connection to our inner self.

Yoga has been a regular and important part of my life for more than 30 years. I have been teaching alignment-based yoga for about 25 years. I was a certified Anusara-Inspired Yoga teacher. My primary teachers have been Desirée Rumbaugh, Brette Berlin Scott, and Christina Sell. I consider yoga a life-long practice that deepens one’s critical interrogation of body, mind, and self. I think of it also as serious play.

I stepped into my first yoga class desperate to feel better in my body and it has rarely failed me since. I’m grateful for the many teachers (Maty Ezraty, Christina Sell, and Brette Scott to name a few) and this yoga community that has supported my continuous evolution as a student and teacher. Today my aim is to be curious and open-minded pulling from multiple styles, healing modalities, and movement techniques to create a practice that cultivates curiosity of self and still never fails to make us feel better in our bodies.

I fell in love with yoga at a retreat in Maine many years ago. As a single mom, I started my own home practice, that continued for 20 years. Upon experiencing classes in different parts of the country, I knew it was time to take my practice to the next level. My first class at Shakti was challenging, but I knew right away this was the place I wanted to practice yoga. I am inspired by teacher trainings, classes and workshops both locally and away. My goal is to pass on to my students the things I am most grateful for: increased strength, flexibility and body awareness.

My adventure with yoga began over 28 years ago by mistake when I half-heartedly attended a yoga class at the gym. Interestingly enough, I found that yoga was exactly what I needed in my life. All these years later, my passion for yoga continues to grow. After working in the public schools for 36 years, it was natural for me to combine my love of teaching with my love of yoga. In my classes, I share the joy, passion and healing that I have experienced in my practice to inspire others.
